1986 NIKE SOCK RACER BRI Y/BLK.

The Sock Racer was born by accident. Looking for stretchy material suitable for running tights, Nike designers happened upon a type of fabric used in the women's girdle industry. The fabric was found to be too heavy for tights, but perfect for running shoes. Early test models of the shoe were a combination of nylon and girdle fabric, but it didn't take long for designers to realize the entire upper could be fabricated from the material. A full-length urethane sole with no outsole added to the revolutionary look of the shoe, which, however, didn't revolutionize the industry or hang around long, although today's wrap-type tongues probably owe something to this innovator.
